Christopher Paul Stevens

December 27, 1963 ~ October 25, 2019 (age 55)

Christopher Paul Stevens passed away on Friday, October 25th, having suffered a stroke six months prior.

He was born on December 27th, 1963, in Oceanside, California (near San Diego), to SSgt. Darrell T. Stevens U.S.M.C. and Barbara Ruth (Cook) Stevens.

He graduated from Penquis Valley High School in Milo, Maine in 1982.

Chris was a free spirit who traveled to Texas, South Carolina, and many other areas.  He worked as a dental assistant in Bangor in the mid 1980’s and eventually became interested in floral arrangement, a skill at which he excelled.  His friend Shelly recalls Chris as “a spiritual artist and collectors of things both beautiful and odd or rare”.

He worked as a floral arranger in Charleston, SC in the late 1980’s, alongside his friend Gunny Wallen Together, they arranged flowers for events and weddings. Gunny remembers Chris being “so creative and FUNNY and a great friend”.

Chris’s dear friend and former roommate Leslie Barden-Moores recalls that "He was a facilitator of fun and interesting times!”

Christopher Stevens was a proud gay man for all of his adult life, although he was conflicted about telling some of his family of his "secret identity".  We are all poorer for that. His kindness and generosity of spirit will always be remembered.

Pre-deceased by his parents, Chris leaves behind his brother, Dan Stevens; his sister in law, Brenda Stevens; his two nephews, Nigel and Kevin Stevens; and many other cousins, aunts and uncles from Maine to Virginia.

Christopher’s wish was to be cremated, and to have his ashes spread at some of his favorite spots in Maine.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
