The question is: How do you find the right words to express your love for your grandfather and all he meant to you?

That’s where contemporary poetry can come in handy. Moving memorial poems about grandfathers are a great way to pay tribute to your granddad. These poems capture their spirit, bring forth happy memories, and inspire hope in the future after they’ve passed away.

Even if you aren’t a writer, these beautiful verses will give you something to reference when preparing your eulogy.

We Had a Wonderful Grandfather

We had a wonderful grandfather,

One who never really grew old;

His smile was made of sunshine,

And his heart was solid gold;

His eyes were as bright as shining stars,

And in his cheeks fair roses you see.

We had a wonderful grandfather,

And that’s the way it will always be.

But take heed, because

He’s still keeping an eye on all of us,

So let’s make sure

He will like what he sees.

To My Grandfather

A giant pine, magnificent and old

Stood staunch against the sky and all around

Shed beauty, grace and power.

Within its fold birds safely reared their young.

The velvet ground beneath was gentle,

and the cooling shade gave cheer to passers by.

Its towering arms a landmark stood, erect and unafraid,

As if to say, “Fear naught from life’s alarms”.

It fell one day.

Where it had dauntless stood was loneliness and void.

But men who passed paid tribute – and said,

“To know this life was good,

It left it’s mark on me. Its work stands fast”.

And so it lives. Such life no bonds can hold –

This giant pine, magnificent and old.

He Has Achieved Success

He has achieved success who has lived well,

laughed often and loved much:

who has enjoyed the trust of pure women,

the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children;

who has filled the niche and accomplished his task;

who has left the world better than he found it;

whether by an improved poppy,

a perfect poem, or a rescued soul;

who has never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty

or failed to express it;

who has always looked for the best in others

and given the best he had.

Whose life was an inspiration;

Whose memory a benediction.

God Saw You Getting Tired

God saw you getting tired

and a cure was not to be

so he put his arms around you

and whispered,

“Come to Me”

With tearful eyes we watched you

and saw you pass away

and although we love you dearly

we could not make you stay.

A Golden heart stopped beating

hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.

My Grandfather

My Grandfather was a man who had smiles to brighten your days,

who always made you feel good with his warm words of praise.

And what’s more he knew

what to do to make wishes come true.

He was my Grandfather.

My Grandfather was someone who always had good stories to tell,

but just as importantly he knew how to be a good listener as well.

He was patient and kind

and the very best friend you could ever hope to find.

He was no ordinary man.

And I’m proud to tell the world that

[Insert Your Granddads name here]

Was my Grandfather.
